Organic Gardening for Kids

Early in the Spring we talked about the benefits of involving your child in organic gardening. The connection will make them enjoy eating veggies and fruits! (Click here to read the article)

The Healthy Child Organization published a few additional tips to keep it fun and enjoyable for kids and parents. Here they are:

1. Provide child size garden tools and gloves.
2. Establish a garden bed just for your child.
3. Plant a strawberry patch. Children as young as two are quite capable of picking and eating their own strawberries in the garden.
4. Read children' literature about gardening.
5. Place outdoor toys in the garden to make them feel comfortable.
6. Make gardening [art of your daily routine, preferably before bath time, so they can get dirty!
7. Wear sunscreen, hat and sunglasses.
8. Involve children from the start. By being involved from planting to harvesting, young children will fully reap the benefits of organic gardening!
